Our guided hikes are quality New Zealand wilderness experiences with an emphasis on enjoyment. Depending on what you want from your hike, the guides are all well trained and can provide information on conservation, local history and culture, as well as New Zealand native flora and fauna. Of course it is your holiday, so you get to set the parameters for what you want to get out of the trip.

Southern Wilderness has become well known as the 'Gourmet Guided Walk Company', with the 'Gourmet' applying not only to the food that we prepare, but to the whole trip experience. We are proud of our menu, and offer an option to combine our fine food (locally sourced where possible) with equally fine local wine. Upgrade options are available for each of our trips.
Our most popular hike, The Heaphy Track in Kahurangi National Park, is classified as a Department of Conservation's 'Great Walk' and is one of the most diverse trails in New Zealand. Our guides are filled with stories, anecdotes and fun facts that help bring the trail to life.
The Nelson Lakes National Park is a virtually untouched wonderland; towering mountains and vast valleys provide an amazing backdrop for a unique adventure. Considered to be one of New Zealand's hidden gems, why not contact us today to discover why?
If you want something even more challenging, then the Travers Sabine circuit in Nelson Lakes National Park is for you - 5 days of back country hiking through beech forest and spectacular glacial valleys. We hike up and over the Travers Pass at 1787m to link the wild and wonderful Traver and Sabine river valleys. If you have a good level of fitness and have experienced multiday walks before, then this is the majestic experience you've been waiting to have.
