Here at Southern Wilderness we are passionate about our Wilderness Backyard, and thanks to you, we help out a very worthy cause in one of our national parks, Kahurangi. In fact when you walk through the Heaphy Track, you will see evidence of something called the Blue Duck Project.
The Blue Duck Project on the Gouland Downs around the Heaphy Track is a relatively new project and it aims to reduce predators around the Blue Ducks nesting and living areas.
Every person that comes on a gourmet Heaphy Tack walk with Southern Wilderness directly contributes a $5 donation toward this ongoing project. Our plan in the next 5 years is to raise $10,000 toward this project. You can make an individual direct donation by clicking on the blue duck link at the bottom of this page to be taken to our secure online page to make your own donation.
Why the Blue Duck? Well for starters it’s a very cool bird! We like to think of it as the adventure bird of the wilderness, and if you’re lucky enough to see one navigating down some rapids you’ll see why! These birds live in rough, wet wild water. Their environment is a fast paced, and pristine home.
If you click on the link to the left of the screen, you can read more about these amazing birds.
But they are under threat. Since humans have arrived in New Zealand, wave after wave of introduced predators have had a serious impact on native bird populations. The Blue Duck is no exception, so different projects around the country have been developed by skilled and passionate conservationists to help these birds in their daily fight against these ferocious feeders.
Help them out by clicking on the blue duck link at the bottom of this page to be taken to our secure online page to make your own donation. Or come walking on a Gourmet Heaphy hike with us, and know that we will be donating on your behalf!
When donating please state clearly in the comments box, that the contribution is for the Blue Duck Project. And thank you for helping make a difference!
