Itinerary

Day One

You will be picked up from your accommodation at approximately 8.30am and taken to Marahau the gateway to the National Park.

Please have bags all ready to go. If you have bags you do not want to take on the track they can be left with us. Please make sure you secure all your valuables, wallets, passports etc. Ask the guides for advice on your options.

Also, on this trip, your overnight gear will be taken on ahead for you to the accommodation so please make sure you have a separate day bag to carry the things you may need during the walk; such as water bottle, sun cream, trail snacks, rain jacket, camera, insect repellent as well as any personal medication and don’t forget your swimming togs!

We take the 10.30 water taxi from Marahau to Bark Bay arriving at 11.30. A short climb and descent to cross South Head takes us to Sandfly Bay. We then head down to the magical Falls River, which we cross on a 47m suspension bridge heading inland over a saddle between two bush-clad valleys to Torrent Bay. There is a tiny village here with a small quay. We have a choice of either a high or low tide route but will normally take the high tide so as not to miss out on the beauty of this walk.

There are some great side trips off the main track in the Anchorage and Torrent Bay area, including an excursion up to Cleopatra’s Pool – a boulder-lined swimming hole in the depths of some pristine native bush. Your guide will let you know what options are available depending on weather, time and tide constraints.

Tonight is spent in the at Anchorage DOC hut or camp in one of our tents close to the beach.

Day Two

After a good night’s sleep, some breakfast (and morning swim!) we continue our walk to Watering Cove. Your overnight bags will be transferred back to Marahau for you so all you need is your day bag again! First there is time for a short walk to Pitt Head, an old pa` site then along to the stunning crescent shaped Te Pukatea Bay.

Today we have a chance to do what the Abel Tasman is famous for – Kayaking in the clear blue waters. At 12.30 we join in with Abel Tasman Kayaks & their guided trip paddling with the tide arriving back at Marahau around 4pm,

This is a chance to observe close up the antics of the resident New Zealand Fur Seals Kekeno and watch out for the Little Blue Penguins too!

Our driver will meet you at Marahau to take you back to your accommodation in Nelson.

Includes one night of accommodation in Department of Conservation huts, all meals, guiding services, door to door transport to/from Nelson accommodation.

NOTE: The accommodation on the track is in Department of Conservation huts – these are basic, but comfortable and must be shared with other walkers.

Price: $1095 per person
